The summer beach season (when lifeguard services are available) was extended from September 15th to September 30th this year, and during that time, the ‘green’ flag flew for 85% of the time, the ‘yellow’ flag for 11% and the ‘red’ flag for just 4% of the time.
There was also, apparently, a crackdown on beach vendors, illegal masseurs and animals on the town’s beaches.
A total of twenty young children were successfully reacquainted with their families after having been reported ‘lost’ and 32 people were transferred to the Health Centre for various beach-related injuries, most of them minor.
