The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has impounded 17,400 kilos of sausages and other piggy products, such as shoulder, loin and ham, following an investigation into a company operating in Sevilla.
The produce was being sold without compliance with quality standards set down in Royal Decree 1469/2007 and, in addition, the labelling of these products was defective in so far as it not meet the requirements for marketing the produce as Iberian, lacked the proper certification and did not ensure traceability.
The company had been marketing Italian white pork as Iberian.
Furthermore, another 1,600 kilos of meat were destroyed due to various health violations. Once the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has finished its inspection of the produce, a report will be sent to the Junta de Andalucia so that the sanctions process can begin.
Fines for this type of infringement can be up to five times the value of the marketed product.
