Two new ‘contraptions’ appeared recently in Plaza Cavana, metal posts with two lights, yellow and red, and two buttons of the same colour. No details on the contraptions but for an engraved ‘Ayuntamiento de Nerja’ and a label from the manufacturer.
Many people have been wondering what these are, so a bit of sleuthing was in order. On the connecting area between calle Diputacion is one of these sunken metal poles which, when raised, theoretically block the road to traffic. Currently, when access to calle El Barrio is necessary from calle Diputacion, the shincrushers have to be moved aside.
The contraptions are automatic post raisers (for the want of a better expression) which can be operated manually via the buttons or via a remote control.
Presumably, certain people are going to be given permission to raise or lower the pole. The lights indicate the status of the metal pole.
