The Minister for Development, José Blanco, has announced an investment of €1,600 million during 2011 for the ‘Mediterranean Corridor’, a project designed to connect Madrid and Valencia via the AVE high-speed train service.
The Minister was in Valencia for the first AVE test on the 98 kilometre stretch between Madrid-Albacete and Turia.
José Blanco announced that €558 million would be invested during 2011 to make the AVE trains reach Alicante by 2012. In addition, the tender documents will be prepared during 2011 for works to connect Castellón with Valencia by 2014.
The final objective is to be able to travel between Madrid and Valencia in 1hour 25 minutes, to Castellón in 1 hour 55 minutes and to Alicante in less than three hours.
