Villarreal missed a golden opportunity to go to the top of the pile for the first time in their history after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hércules on Monday night, although newcomers Hércules have been pretty impressive so far this season
Valdes put the locals ahead midway through the first half, but their lead only lasted two minutes after Capdevila got on the end of a cross to equalise from close to goal.
Trézéguet put the home side back in front five minutes before the break, but then French striker got himself sent off three minutes later for protesting. In the second half, Borja Valero levelledl the scores once again, but then he too was sent back to the dressing room for a second bookable offence with ten minutes to go. He was followed a couple of minutes later by team-mate Musacchio, who received a straight red card for elbowing.
In total there were nine yellow and three red cards shown during the match.
