The authorities in Coín are studying the feasibility of a new food market in the centre of the town, although it could be a few years away even if everything goes to plan.
The idea was proposed by the Association of Young Entrepreneurs and Professionals (AJEPER) and the Council has received a grant of €19,000 from the Junta de Andalucia to fund a feasibility study.
The idea is to obtain accurate data relating to the technical characteristics of a future market and its ideal location within the centre of Coin.
The market would have around 20 stalls and create up to 60 direct and indirect jobs. The site would be on one of the city streets but no decision will be taken until the completion of the feasibility study, a task to be carried out by an independent professiona company.
The new market would be modern and functional, but housing the traditional stalls such as fruit and veg, handicrafts, fish and meat.
The former market in the city was located in plaza del Pescao.
