Hewlett-Packard Co. has released its Slate 500 tablet computer with a Windows 7 operating system and an 8.9-inch touchscreen display.
H-P’s Slate 500 tablet is powered by a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, has an 8.9-inch touchscreen display, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a 64GB flash storage module. There is a 3 Megapixel camera, a VGA webcam and microphone for video calls. It has built-in WiFi, so you can instantly connect to the internet, but it does not, however, have 3G data capability.
The Slate 500 is described as ‘the ideal PC for professionals who don’t usually work at a traditional desk, yet need to stay productive in a secure, familiar Windows environment.’
The Slate 500 has a price tag of around $799, more than that of either the Apple iPad or the Samsung Tab.
Many device makers have already announced tablets to rival Apple’s device, Toshiba being one, and users will soon have a variety of tablets to choose from.
