Two women have been arrested in Almeria on suspicion of robbing at least 25 men who they contacted and subsequently met through an internet network.
The two women, aged 50 years and 45 years, contacted a number of men aged between 60 years and 65 years, selecting ones who lived alone and had average purchasing power.
One woman was responsible for chatting to the men to obtain their personal data, the other would then make an appointment to meet up at the man’s home. Once at his home, sleeping pills would be slipped into the man’s drink and while he was blissfully asleep, credit cards and other valuables would be removed from the house.
Two other people, also detained, have been charged with receiving stolen goods.
The Guardia Civil have confirmed that at least 25 such robberies have been carried out by the women although they also believe that there could be more cases which have gone unreported, perhaps because the men involved were married and don’t want their extra curricular activities to be publicised, especially to their spouses.
Raids on three premises in Almería, Aguadulce and Roquetas de Mar resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of jewelry, video equipment, laptops and drugs used to sedate victims as well as lots of blank prescriptions.
