Ryanair has announced that it is planning to cease operations at Santiago de Compostela airport in Galicia, a move that will mean an end to all international connections from the airport.
The airline currently flies to Rome, Frankfurt and London, catering to over 150,000 passengers every year, but this will end on January 11th 2011. Around 150 jobs will be lost as a result of this decision which, according to Ryanair is the refusal of the regional government to collaborate in various promotional activities.
The announcement was made in Santiago de Compostela by the airline’s Marketing and Sales Director for Spain, Portugal, Malta and Morocco, Luis Fernández-Mellado.
