RENFE, the rail network operator, has taken delivery of four new top of the line S599 trains for use on the Sevilla to Málaga middle distance route.
The trains cost €21.4 million and are funded by the Junta de Andalucia and the Ministry of works.
The middle distance Sevilla to Málaga route is included in an agreement between the Junta de Andalucia, Ministry of Works and RENFE due to its ‘public service nature’ and therefore not in the list of rail services that could be financed or regulated by market forces, such as is the case with the AVE high-speed service.
