Businessmen in Torrox are expressing concern about the number of robberies recently in both Torrox Costa and Torrox Pueblo, three occurring on Friday night to Saturday morning.
In a short space of time, suggesting the same gang was responsible, a supermarket and two hairdressers near El Faro were robbed.
Although the haul was not large, the amount of damage caused is said to be significant. Other recent robberies include attacks on two banks in Torrox, one in avenida El Faro and the other in Los Llanos.
The Association of Businessmen and Entrepreneurs, Asecot, are calling for a greater police presence, both Local Police and Guardia Civil, on the streets of Torrox, both during the day and at night.
Asecot also rejects the Council assertion that security in Torrox is solely the responsibility of the Guardia Civil and not, directly, the Local Police.
Asecot are also concerned that the ‘unfortunate events’ surrounding the recent Torrox Feria, which resulted in a very low police presence, will reoccur and the association has renewed its call for a National Police station, to cover both Torrox and Nerja, to be set up.
