The IU in Nerja is demanding that the Mayor, José Alberto Armijo, seeks an urgent solution to the problem of residential areas whose water supply does not meet the appropriate standards for drinking.
According to the IU spokesman, Manuel Valero, almost 30 urbanisations receive untreated water from the Rio Chillar and the situation has worsened during the sixteen years of PP rule.
When the administration of the water supply came under local control in 2008, it was estimated that around 3,100 people did not have suitable drinking water.
The revision of the PGOU apparently recorded that 1,700 households were without proper drinking water. According to Manuel Valero, with an average of three people per household this means 5,100 people without adequate drinking water.
Obviously a serious problem if true, but the cynic might just wonder why such items are only brought to light when an election is looming.
PB says:
Is there a published list of the places where it is/isn’t safe to drink the water in Nerja?
Rob says:
No published list as far as I am aware. Also as far as I am aware, everywhere has access to drinkable water and I have never heard of any problems.
There are even public drinking fountains in all parts of the town so I cannot imagine it is a serious problem and is more a case of political posturing in the run-up to an election.
I am sure we can expect more of these types of items, plus some outrageous promises on all sides, during the next few months. Wouldn’t put it past one of them to promise a sewage works!!
