It is reported that work on the political football stadium, or Nerja Museum as it is also known locally, has stopped and that the company carrying out the work, Playmedia, has even been diverting equipment back to its warehouses in Barcelona.
The latest setback to the project relates to apparent ‘serious irregularities’ in the awarding of the contract to equip the museum and a complaint filed by Expociencia, one of the losing bidders, with the Administrative Court.
It is alleged that requested corrected documentation from Playmedia was received a day late and, therefore, the company should not have even been considered in the bidding process.
According to the Council, if the complaint is upheld then the Nerja Caves Foundation could end up paying twice for the contract, once to Playmedia and again to Expociencia in the form of compensation. The contract is valued at €1.3 million.
The manager of the Nerja Caves Foundation (and, purely coincidentally, the leader of the opposition PSOE) has not commented on the situation since his initial remark that he believed that the Mayor of Nerja was behind the latest goings on in an attempt to further delay the museum project.
