The Santa Catalina castle in Jaén opens to the public again today after being closed earlier this year to carry out a €1 million renovation project. The re-opening coincides with the Romeria de Santa Catalina, the patron saint of the town.
The castle closed earlier this year to allow maintenance work to be carried out, including waterproofing the walls, clearing the perimeter, structural cleaning and other general works. Antennae were also removed from one of the towers.
Thanks to a grant from the Provincial Council, a new interpretative centre has been created with information available in several languages. Previously, all information was only available in Spanish.
The Romeria de Santa Catalina, taking place today, Sunday, was postponed for three days as the official date, November 25th, was not a weekend.
