The secretary general of the UGT-A, Manuel Pastrana, has labelled Prime Minister Zapatero’s decision to axe the €462 subsidy to unemployed people not receiving benefits as ‘a serious error’ which will leave hundreds of thousands in dire straits.
Pastrana stated that in Andalucia alone there are around 350,000 families with no-one working and no income coming in.
The secretary general urged the government to produce a complete package of measures which would help those who are out of work and cannot afford the basics but not help those who do not want to work.
