The Junta de Andalucia has so far formally identified and listed 100,000 illegal homes in the region, most built on land not classified as suitable for development.
The estimate of the actual number of illegal buildings in Andalucia is put at around 300,000.
Since the Ministry of Public Works and Housing set up the Directorate General of Inspection in 2005 it has handled 7,345 cases relating to planning violations, most of these being buildings situated on land not classified as being for development. Over 5,000 denuncias have been issued.
