A 1.4% increase in the past week has pushed the price of one litre of petrol above the €1.20 mark for the first time since July 2008. The price of diesel has gone up by 1.16%.
These increases have arrived just before the big Puente de la Constitución when an estimated seven million vehicles are expected to take to the roads in Spain.
Over the whole year, petrol prices have risen by 10.8% and diesel by 14.4%.
This increase in the price of automotive fuels coincides with a rise in oil prices on international markets. A barrel of Brent, the European benchmark, was trading at $ 87.27, compared to $ 83.65 a week ago, while Texas U.S. stood at $ 85.38, compared to $ 81.70.
Retail prices of petrol in Spain are below the EU average, although pre-tax they are above the EU average.
