Google is rumoured to be launching its own Chrome OS netbook on Tuesday December 7th, although any real details are a bit sketchy at the moment.
Questions still remain to be answered:
If the Operating System is cloud-based – basically a browser-based system – with everything stored in cyberspace (by Google), if you are offline then doesn’t the netbook become just an expensive paperweight?
And how do you access your info if the netbook is your sole machine?
Or do you need a second operating system to run in tandem? Defeats the object a bit.
It would obviously be fast and a lot cheaper with no (Microsoft) licence fees to be included in the price of the machine, but many do rely on such things as Microsoft Office for much of their work, despite the availability of similar (free) products such as Open Office or Google Docs.
Hopefully all these questions will be answered on Tuesday.
