The deputy spokesman for the opposition PSOE in Nerja, Luis Peña, yesterday reported that the Town Hall has a total of €8.3 million in outstanding accounts receivable relating to the period 1990 to 2008.
The spokesman stated that these amounts are still included in the municipal accounts, although many are too old to be feasibly collected, and that this gives a false impression of the state of the municipal finances.
Luis Peña also urged the PP government to review its decision not to make adjustments to the 2011 budget as it was an election year, the spokesman saying that the economic crisis and the amount of funding being received had changed the general situation.
Strange how such situations are rarely brought to anyone’s attention in non-election years.
