Vélez-Málaga Council is taking the necessary steps to introduce a ‘blue zone’ parking system in the commercial areas of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, the idea being limited time parking in certain streets to encourage the rotation of vehicles.
The measure still has to be approved in full session of the Council but everything has been prepared for the introduction of the first phase of this system which will initially cover 10 streets in Vélez-Málaga and 7 in Torre del Mar.
The Council is committed to awarding the management of the system to Amivel, an association for the disabled, to facilitate the employment of people with physical disabilities.
It is expected to cost the concessionaire €615,390 to install the necessary 30 parking meters and it is estimated that annual costs will be €491,953 and revenue will be €548,096.
The cost of parking is expected to be €1 per hour, at least that is what the Council has worked out as being the correct rate, with a maximum parking time of one and a half hours.
There will be 728 parking spaces available under the system with 546 in rotation and 182 for residents. Of the total, 389 are in Vélez-Málaga and 339 are in Torre del Mar. Residents will be entitled to a weekly subscription rate of €5.09.
