Less heavy rain last night has brought a bit of respite to areas of Jaén, Córdoba and Sevilla where there has been widespread flooding although an AEMET alert for more heavy rains remains in operation for most of today.
The lower rainfall in the Guadalquivir basin has stopped the river from flooding near El Carpio and Fuente Palmera where the flow is 2,000 cubic metres per second.
Further downstream, however, in Peñaflor and Alcalá del Río, the flow still measures 3,200 cubic metres per second.
A command post has been set up in Lora del Río, Sevilla, to monitor the level of the river which, if it rises, could result in people having to be evacuated from their homes.
