The future theatre in Torre del Mar is now to be built near the covered sports stadium and indoor swimming pool to make a large sports and entertainment centre.
The project is set to cost €1,200,000 and is being financed under the Local Investment Fund 2010 (FEIL), more commonly known as the Second Plan Zapatero. These funds were initially earmarked for another project, a Child Protection Centre, but difficulties with the Junta de Andalucia has led to a change of plan.
The new theatre will cover an area of around 1,000 square metres and there will be a total of 350 seats. One novelty with the theatre will be the possibility to actually divide it up into three sepoarate areas if necessary, with 170 seats in a large, central area and two side wings of around 80 seats each.
The theatre was initially going to be located next to the future Museo de la Caña de Azúcar but, again, there has been a change of plan and it will now be built next to the sports centre.
According to the Councillor for Urban Planning, work on the new theatre will begin once the draft project has been finalised. The draft project is currently at the stage of being drafted!
