The search is resuming this morning for a nine year old boy who disappeared after the car in which he was travelling with his father and brother was hit by floodwaters from the río Alcudia in the village of La Bienvenida, Ciudad Real province.
Guardia Civil divers spent much of the night searching a large stretch of the river but without success.
The vehicle was hit by a sudden surge of water from the rio Alcudia and was dragged more than 200 metres by the force of the water, its occupants ejected from the vehicle during this time.
The father and his elder son, aged eleven years, tried unsuccessfully to reach the vehicle to see if the nine year old was still trapped inside before walking several kilometres through the sparsely populated area to summon help.
