Algarrobo Council has adapted municipal ordinances so that as from Wednesday December 22nd, people between the ages of 14 years and 25 years who commit certain crimes will have the option to do community service rather than pay fines.
Several municipalities have either been contemplating such schemes or have already introduced such a scheme.
The option will be available to those who infringe the municipal cleaning laws, engage in street drinking (botellón) or commit certain traffic violations.
Ineligible for the community service option are those who have been punished on more than two occasions within the past twelve months or those who have a debt with the Council.
