Fifteen people have been arrested in Cádiz and Málaga in connection with the theft and resale of high-end vehicles which were subsequently used to smuggle drugs.
The investigation into the smuggling network began last March after police detected a number of stolen vehicles being used to smuggle drugs, particularly in the Campo de Gibraltar.
A common factor with these vehicles was the installation of a GPS tracking ssystem which allowed the smugglers to know, at any time, where the vehicles were located.
A group of Bulgarians, with Spanish support, acquired the cars from parking garages and other locations along the Costa del Sol.
A group of Moroccans were responsible for locating prospective buyers involved in the drug trade in Morocco and a third group was responsible for getting the stolen vehicles from Spain to Morocco through the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa.
