The financial crisis and, in particular, the inactivity in the construction industry has seen revenue from planning permission in Vélez-Málaga fall from €4 million in 2007 to €485,408 in 2010.
There is land available in the municipality for the building of between 15,000 and 20,000, but no-one wants to build during the current climate and the Council is looking at a number of initiatives to stimulate industrial and residential development.
