A total of 85 seafaring visitors from North Africa have been welcomed by the Marine Rescue and Guardia Civil off the coast of Andalucia in the past couple of days, most now enjoying the hospitality of the National Police before returning from whence they came.
Near the Isla de Alborán, an Indian merchant ship reported seeing a boat full of people and reported the sighting to Marine Rescue who sent a boat to intercept.
Amongst those on board were two pregnant women and a baby under one year old, all of whom are now in hospital for routine health checks.
Meanwhile, off the coast of Almeria, Guardia Civil officers intercepted a small dinghy carrying 28 Algerian males. The passengers were transferred to a Marine Rescue vessel and then taken to the port of Garrucha where the Red Cross supplied blankets, dry clothes, shoes, water and hot drinks.
