El Borge Council is all set to start a project to renovate the XVI century parish church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
The project will cost €400,000 and is being financed by the Junta de Andalucia, the Diocese of Málaga and the local Council and has a completion period of eight months.
The church, located next to the Town Hall in plaza de la Constitución, was declared a site of cultural interest (BIC) by the Junta de Andalucia.
Various restoration works have been carried out by the Council at the site during the past fifteen years but this latest project is a major repair job. Walls, the roof and other structures are scheduled to be restored to, hopefully, their former glory.
The church combines Gothic, Renaissance and Mudejar styles and is said to be built on the site of a former mosque. It has three towers, one of which is octagonal and quite unique in the province.
