The Nerja Council has now received details of the proposed botanical garden project from the Department of environment as recently promised by the Delegate for Environment, Remedios Martel.
Council technicians will now study the project details in preparation for the granting of a licence and the tendering process.
The project, described by the Mayor as possibly the best of a number of similar projects currently being contemplated throughout Andalucia, has an estimated completion time of 36 months.
The Mayor has also expressed the need for consultation meetings involving the Council, the Nerja Caves Foundation and representatives of the Department of Environment to discuss the management of the gardens.
With relations between the Nerja Caves Foundation (PSOE controlled) and the Council (PP controlled) being far from cosy at the moment, the management of the botanical gardens is likely to prompt heated debate at the very least.
