A court in Málaga has acquitted the Chief of the Local Police in Vélez-Mâlaga of the alleged crime of assault against one of his neighbours.
The incident was alleged to have occurred in February 2009, the two men having had a history of bad relations.
The victim suffered the loss of eight teeth in the incident as well as an injury to his neck, these injuries taking thirty days to heal.
However, the judge ruled that although it was evident that the victim had suffered the injuries and had been treated in hospital, it had not been proven ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ that the injuries had actually been caused by the Police Chief.
Furthermore, the Police Chief had denied causing the injuries.
The prosecution had been requesting a prison sentence of two years and compensation of €7,375.
The prosecution has announced its intention to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.
