Judge Mercedes Alaya in Sevilla has summoned a pediatrician to testify in court relating to the death of a child aged two years and three months.
The incident prompting this action occurred at the Nuestra Señora de la Paz Health Centre in San Juan de Aznalfarache. The pediatrician diagnosed the child as having a common cold when, in fact, she was suffering from bronchopneumonia.
The coroner reported that prescribing a simple antibiotic would have prevented a deterioration in the child’s health and, subsequently, her death. This then led to the accusation of medical malpractice against the pediatrician.
