The Public Prosecutor in Sevilla has opened an investigation into the possible disappearance of twins at the Virgen del Rocío hospital, a denuncia having been made by parents familiar with similar cases in Cádiz.
Juan Gómez and Felisa Sosa, from Utrera, are a couple whose twins were pronounced dead at birth on June 27th 1977.
Following the release of details relating to twenty cases in Cádiz where newborn children were apparently given to other couples, Juan Gómez and Felisa Sosa suspected that the same could have happened to their twins.
Felisa Sosa was anaesthetised for the birth and when she came round, the doctors informed her that the twins had died, although she never actually saw them.
In December, the couple visited a cemetery in San Fernando where the records show the burial of one female foetus. They believe that it is possible that the second twin was given to another family.
Investigations are still ongoing in Cádiz into the possible disappearance, or theft, of at least thirteen babies in the 1960’s.
