Cold front sweeps through Spain

The cold front sweeping across Spain has brought snow to some mountainous areas of Sevilla, Málaga, Granada, Jaén, Huelva and Almeria provinces and heavy winds in the Straits of Gibraltar have been causing difficulties for ferries, especially the high-speed type.

The cold weather will continue into Monday and many provinces are on ‘orange alert’ for low temperatures, wind, rain, snow or combinations thereof.

Ice will be a problem on some roads and motorists are advised, if they have to go out in bad conditions, to take warm clothing, a mobile phone and a charger/car charger and snow chains.

Anyone breaking down or getting stuck in snow should remain in their vehicle with the heating on but renewing the air regularly and ensuring there there is no blockage in the exhaust system.

There is a high risk of heavy rains in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma as well as in Madrid, Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo where temperatures are expected to fall to between minus five and minus seven degrees.
