Torrox Council has unanimously approved a motion to freeze the salaries and wages of council members as well as freezing payments and allowances made to those in positions of trust who attend various plenary sessions or committees.
The agreement comes six months after the Council agreed to reduce the salaries and wages of all municipal staff in accordance with the decree passed by the Central Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
The Council also approved the sale of two plots of land for the knock-down price of €500,001 for the construction of 152 VPO (subsidised) houses.
This is the third attempt by the Council to sell the plots of land, various administrative problems hindering the earlier attempts. However, it is reported that there was once again a request by the Junta de Andalucia to stop the sale but, as the notification arrived too late, the Council is proceeding as planned, apparently confident that the letter from the Junta has no legal status.
The PSOE abstained on the VPO issue.
Also approved unanimously by the Council was a new ordinance regulating street vendors.
