Particularly during the protracted dispute between the Council and the Market Traders Association about the relocation of the weekly market, but also long before, there were many who thought that one of the reasons for not using the Los Huertos de Carabeo site, currently a car park and home to the annual feria, was that it was intended for the construction of a new Town Hall.
Apparently included in the new PGOU (General Plan) are plans for, amongst other things, a new Town Hall in Los Huertos de Carabeo.
The plan also envisages the construction of up to 263 houses, an underground car park, garden areas and a large public square.
Mike says:
I must enquire as to whether the old new town centre is included in these plans. I would have thought that there was plenty of scope there for a new town hall, particularly when the economic bite kicks in.
Peter Wilkinson says:
I hope these plans do not envisage moving the Foreigners Department and the Tourist Information Office away from the Balcon area.
With all the unsold property around Nerja do we really need another 263 houses being built unless they are for social housing stock.
Where will The Ferria move to ? Where will all the vehicles that use the “Free” Car Park go to whilst the construction work goes on until the proposed underground car park is built ?
