Seventeen people have been arrested in connection with human trafficking, the network using voodoo and violence to force women into prostitution.
The arrests were carried out in Sevilla, Algeciras, Madrid, Barcelona, Tarragona and Las Palmas.
The group were highly organised and brought women into Spain, mainly from African countries, and then forced them into prostitution through a mixture of voodoo and beatings to pay off alleged debts of €50,000.
In addition to taking the earnings from the prostitution, the network also fined the women if they did not make their payments on time and charged them a high rent for accommodation.
The detainees are charged with human trafficking, forgery and falsification of documents in order to obtain work permits.
