National Police officers have arrested 57 people involved in a €2.2 million Social Security fraud.
Operation ”Llétar’ began when investigators noticed a lot of employee activity in a number of companies where there was no real activity and the companies were building up huge debts in relation to Social Security contributions.
The investigation led to the arrest of 57 people, with a further 71 being indicted on various charges such as fraud and forgery. Eleven companies, six of which are run by individuals, were involved in the fraud.
The companies were registered in the areas of construction, cleaning, the meat trade and internet ‘locutorios’, with a total of 660 workers registered, of whom 115 applied for benefits and allowances.
