A total of thirteen people, eleven adults and two children, required medical treatment on Friday after being affected by a toxic cloud caused by the use of pesticides in an area near Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz province.
In this residential area, there are a number of greenhouses as well as open fields, and it appears that the application of the pesticides caused a problem due to the cold weather in the area.
Normally, the pesticide would settle into the ground, but the cold weather caused it to become volatile and form toxic clouds.
The pesticides are known to be volatile in cold temperatures and, because there are possible health issues, their use is not advised during during cold weather. Not that this seems to make much difference.
Several people had to be treated for respiratory problems and various eye irritations as the toxic cloud reached their homes.
