Time was, and we’re not talking that long ago, when a walk along any beach would result in the finding of, literally, hundreds (if not thousands in some areas) of seashells of all colours, shapes and sizes. Some of these specimens could be as big as 10 or 15 centimetres across.
And the occasional starfish and urchins. Alas, no longer.
Shops even used to sell an array of local shells, perhaps unwittingly contributing to the current situation.
Strolling slowly along the entire length of El Playazo beach (and back), which is a couple of kilometres, and scanning the entire shoreline, all I came across were these two specimens.
Hardly stunning. So where have they all gone? Over-fishing? Pollution?
Didn’t even find one on Torrecilla beach, a paradise for seashells in the not too distant past.
