The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, is intending to ask the Central Government to pay the one million euro compensation to a local landowner in relation to the expropriation of land for the proposed sewage works.

The courts ruled that the land in question was rural and not buildable land, and therefore the amount paid to the landowner was insufficient. The Council was ordered to pay the landowner one million euros compensation.

The original plans for the sewage works included an underwater pipeline from the Rio Chillar to Burriana and all municipal works in Nerja in recent years have included the provision of suitable water collectors.

Now, however, the plan has changed after the underwater pipeline was rejected. The Mayor argues that that the project investment savings as a result of both these measures, the cancellation of the underwater pipeline and the installation of collectors in readiness, should be used to pay the compensation.
