A German container ship, the ‘K Wave’, with thirteen crew on board, ran aground early this morning on playa de Madrid in Almayate in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga.
The freighter is stranded about 200 metres from shore and Marine Rescue boats and helicopters are in the area to monitor the boat and to ascertain if there is any structural damage to the vessel. At the moment, though, the vessel appears to be undamaged.
The 133 metre long ‘K Wave’ is stranded with the pointed end facing the shore and is proving an attraction for local residents.
The coast was lashed by heavy storms last night and the ‘K Wave’ ran aground at around 06:00 this morning.
Why the vessel ran aground (and why it was pointing to shore!) is not yet known.
