The German container ship ‘K Wave’ which ran aground in heavy seas near Almayate, Vélez-Málaga, was successfully re-floated on Wednesday afternoon.
The ship was carrying 274 containers, five of which were classified as dangerous, their contents being paint, chlorine and paint powder. However, these were stored in the centre of the vessel, well protected, and were therefore not considered hazardous in the situation.
Work to re-float the stricken vessel began at 13:30 and was completed at 15:45, divers having inspected the hull for any damage or leaks.
The ship was ordered to make for Málaga port under its own power, although escorted by the tug ‘Ursus’.
