The Granada Provincial Prosecutor has opened criminal investigations into four cases of possible ‘child theft’ which took place between 1953 and 1972.
Three of the cases were originally submitted to the State Attorney General by the National Association for Irregular Adoption (ANADIR). However, the Attorney General refused to open a general investigation and urdged ANADIR to submit the allegations in the provinces where the alleged thefts took place.
The fourth case, submitted this week, relates to the disappearance of a baby in 1959 or 1960.
Similar allegations of child theft are being investigated in several other provinces.
