The Guardia Civil in Nerja have arrested a Moroccan woman as the alleged perpetrator of a number of thefts from homes in the area where she was employed as a cleaner.
An investigation began on February 9th after complaints about thefts at a gym in Nerja pointed to the detainee, initials L.M., as the culprit.
Other incidents began to come to light, thefts from various homes in the area. It appears that quite a few people had their suspicions that valuables were disappearing from their homes but were reluctant to report the incidents through lack of tangible proof or through fear of the reaction of the woman.
When it was discovered that the woman was about to travel to Morocco, presumably to sell the stolen goods, a routine control was initiated, during which the police discovered a number of stolen items in the woman’s bag.
A search of her home led to the discovery of more items for which the woman could not prove ownership and which were later recognised by their rightful owners.
