Work on equipping the Nerja History Museum is proceeding in a timely fashion according to the manager of the Nerja Caves Foundation, Ángel Ramírez, and could possibly open in April if the Council grants an opening license.
Progress with the Nerja History Museum has suffered countless delays as a result of an often bitter party political struggle between the Nerja Caves Foundation, who financed the project, and the Nerja Council.
There has been litigation by the Council relating to alleged administrative irregularities as well as by one of the contractors, the latter being encouraged to take the matter to court by the Council according to Ángel Ramírez.
Also, according to Ángel Ramírez, the request for an opening license was made more than a year ago but has still not been granted. However, he has expressed hope that all possible delays are now at an end and that there can be no more excuses for not issuing the opening license.
