Two women have died in the past twenty-four hours as a result of domestic violence, one in Reus (Tarragona) and one in Valencia.
A 32 year old woman, a Bolivian national, died at her home in calle Gregorio Gea, Valencia, allegedly at the hands of her partner, a 72 year old Uruguayan. The man is now in custody. There had been no previous record of abuse in this case.
In Reus, Tarragona, police are searching for a 34 year old man as the alleged killer of 44 year old Montse M. at her home in calle Don Bosco.
Neighbours apparently noticed that the door was open early in the morning, but attributed this to an oversight. However, this turned out not to be the case and inside was the body of the woman.
The death was actually reported by the couple’s 5 year old daughter after she left the house, on her own, to go to school.
The alleged attacker, a 34 year old South American, was convicted of abuse in 2006 and again in 2010 after violating a restraining order.
Despite the violent episodes, the couple were reconciled and once again living together.
There have now been 12 domestic violence fatalities so far this year. Last year, the total was 73.
