A National Police officer who was involved in a shootout in Fuengirola on Friday has been discharged from hospital.
It all began at 15:00 on Friday when an individual entered a branch of a savings bank in Fuengirola and, after threatening the manager with a gun, attempted to take him hostage. The attacker tried to take his hostage outside to a car, owned by the manager, but was thwarted when the manager hurlled the keys at him and ran away.
The attacker fled, but was soon being sought by police. A man fitting the description of the robber was located at a house on urbanisation Torreblanca del Sol.
The robber was identified as 55 year old M.M.R. but all efforts to get him to come out of the house were unsuccessful and the Special Operations Group were called in. Shots were fired as the SOG entered the house, resulting in the injury to one officer and the death of the robber.
Inside the house, police found a number of firearms. They also arrested 53 year old J.G.B., a women who was living at the house with the robber, on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
