The PSOE candidate in Benalmádena, Javier Carnero, has denounced what he describes as the sloppy management of the municipal towing service.
Carnero alleges that there is only one crane in service each shift and that the Los Porches and La Comba depots are so full that newly towed vehicles are having to be taken to Los Asperones in the capital.
The Socialists also accused the government of maintaining a deliberate strategy in order to re-privatise the towing service, a public service which generates revenue for the municipality.
Robert McGrath says:
Sloppy management? That’s a joke. Cynical and corrupt practise would be a more accurate description.
I don’t like to get personal about this things but one of the drivers (at least) at Los Porches is prepared to take a 100 Euro bribe. The alternative is that he takes your car, you pay 200 Euros+ and have to deal with the Policia Locale. The latter should be frankly ashamed to allow themselves to be used to support an enforcement system that unreasonable in terms of the fact that the signage is appalling and the consequences of not seeing (or disregarding it to be fair) are not made clear and the financial penalties are simply excessive.
Interesting that they recently towed a car in Benalmádena that was clearly displaying a blue badge and was wrongly parked only because the disabled bay next to which it was parked was illegally occupied by a van. They didn’t tow the van though. What does that tell you? “Solo tourismos”!
I do hope that the driver takes action against the Municipality. He had a severely disabled and autistic son who had to be left in the company of strangers in the searing heat for 4 hours whilst the driver got his car back from the car pound. Absolutely disgraceful and the people who do this job at whatever level should take a good look at themselves.
You’re certainly “sloppy” if you preside over a system where both bribery and excessive enforcement practise exists.
