An investigation is being carried out to determine whether the man killed during a shootout with police in Fuengirola, 55 year old Manuel M.R., a National Police officer, had been involved in any other similar crimes in the area.
The shootout at a house in calle Ricardo Zamora in Torreblanca followed a failed attempt to mug and kidnap a local bank manager, one police officer being wounded in the incident.
Manuel M.R. was a National Police officer who had served at the police station in Marbella. Six years ago he faced disciplinary proceeding, the only blemish on his record, and was subsequently suspended from duty.
There have been a number of similar robberies in the past few months and Manuel M.R. apparently fits the description of the assailant.
