Policing in the town of Torrox has been a bone of contention for some time, including the farcical situation at last October’s feria when the police presence was virtually non-existent.
The latest criticism comes from the PSOE who claim that during the weekend of the recent Andalucia Day celebrations, when there is an influx of tourists, the police were once again conspicuous by their absence due to lack of numbers.
The PSOE claim that the only duty being carried out during the night shift was the manning of the switchboard at headquarters, no patrols on the streets. The same situation, the PSOE alleges, also occurred during the Semana Blanca holiday week.
The Local Police responded by saying that the allegations were untrue and that there was always guaranteed to be one patrol in the town, adding that the police ‘have the manpower they have and that overtime is no longer available’.
